The Inside of the White Slave Traffic

(Moral Feature Film Company, 1913)

Four episodic accounts are shown in this “pictorial report” of an organized ring of human traffickers, detailing their practices and the various methods they employ to procure women for prostitution. Purportedly based on stories drawn from real life, The Inside of the White Slave Traffic was one of the more controversial films to exploit the “white slavery” moral panic of the 1910s.

What has previously been available of this film has been little more than a near-incomprehensible assemblage of random fragments, as more than half of it is lost and what remains derives from heavily censored prints. For this edition, the surviving footage has been returned to its correct order and explanatory text has been inserted to bridge the missing material.
